VALUES AND SCHOOL PURPOSE
Our Purpose: to ensure that our students develop the understandings, skills and attitudes relevant to their individual needs, thereby enabling them to fulfil their potential and contribute to the development of our society.
Values: Values underpin and shape the curriculum. There are five
core values that the Department of Education promotes in their schools:
• A pursuit of knowledge and a commitment to achievement of potential
• Self acceptance and respect of others
• Respect and concern for others and their rights\
• Social and civic responsibility
• Environmental responsibility
Our school has a rich history that we share with our students, as well as a focus on Environmental initiatives and an appreciation of the Arts.
LEARNING AREAS
Schools organise subjects under Learning Areas. There is a requirement that we teach LITERACY and NUMERACY for up to 50% of the week and that each child undertakes a minimum of two hours per week of PHYSICAL EDUCATION. Other learning areas include: LOTE, SOCIETY AND ENVIRONMENT, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND ENTERPRISE, ARTS and HEALTH EDUCATION. Students are given opportunities to develop connections between the different Learning Areas and knowledge, skills, understandings, values and attitudes are integrated across all Learning Areas.
OTHER PROGRAMS
The school has a support program to assist students who require extra help with aspects of Literacy and Numeracy. The school also employs a Specialist in the area of Maths to assist staff with the teaching of Maths skills. Our school employs a teacher to co-ordinate our support for the large group of Special Needs students who are distributed amongst the various classes.
FACILITIES
The school houses a Visual Arts room for Art, has a good collection of musical percussion instruments and drama props, an extensive library and an excellent computer set up - computers in each classroom as well as a bank within the library. Staff also have access to an interactive whiteboard.
