On the 27th March the Education Department applied for the
present site bounded by Hope, Wood, Watkins and Montreal Streets. A
contract for the erection of a two room wood and iron school was let at a
cost of £546.
The
Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York visited Fremantle in July 1901.

|
The school was opened on the 15th April by Mr H. Thomas and within a week
the enrolment had reached 117 pupils.

1902
|
First school journal received from Education Dept Sept 12, 1902. Beginning
of written school history.
Two classrooms were removed from
Plympton School (now East Fremantle) and re-erected at White Gum Valley,
coming into use on the 29th April.
School teachers quarters were
completed in July.

1903
|
By January the school, with an average attendance of 230, again required
increased accommodation.
On 31st December, a contract was let for the
erection of a classroom to cost £250/5/11.
Diphtheria and Scarlet Fever in
area.

1904
|
The new classroom was completed by 24th February. Bad winter storms,
school door blown off.
School closed 19/8 - 5/9 due to Diphtheria epidemic. Visit to school by His
Excellency the Governor, Sir F Bedford.

Feb 15th "Teachers requested to exercise extreme care and see that Head

The increased enrollment (348) necessitated the provision of still another
room making a total of six rooms in all. August 10th, "School
visited by His Excellency, Sir FGD Bedford, GCB, Lady Bedford, Lady
Tennant, Mr Cecil Andrews - Inspector General of Schools, The School
Board."

September 17th "Received from the Department twenty two ornamental trees.
Nine of these have been planted in the school yard and eleven, round the
school quarters." |

The Governor, Sir FGD Bedford, presented a replica of the Governor's
Shield for Drill Competition of State Schools Amateur Athletics
Association to the school for their efforts in winning the competition
three years in succession, 1904-5-6.

Gardens planted but battle the elements, at one stage
engulfed by sand.

1910
|
Contractors for relining the school commenced
work. Iron lining removed and replaced with asbestos!! (This is the old
building that later suffered a fire and demolition). Athletic demonstration
on Fremantle Oval in honour of visit by the Dutch Fleet.
Official
opening of South Beach half holiday given.
